1. madness, insanity (abnormal mental state characterized by mental processes going the wrong way, not reflecting reality)

   ārprāta lēkme‎ ― an attack of insanity

   viņu pārņēma ārprāts‎ ― madness overtook him, took hold of him

   ārprāta pārņemts cilvēks‎ ― a person consumed by madness

   kliegt kā ārprātā‎ ― to scream as if in madness (i.e., like a madman)

2. nonsense, madness (something that does not make sense, that is not reasonable)

   ak tu ārprāts!‎ ― nonsense! madness!

   tīrais ārprāts!‎ ― sheer nonsense, madness

   to darīt būtu ārprāts‎ ― to do that would be madness
