From Middle Persian (compare Manichaean Middle Persian prh (farrah), from Old Persian𐎳𐎼𐎴𐎠 (farnā, “glory”). Akin to Old Armenian փառք (pʿaṙkʿ), an Iranian borrowing. Probably from Proto-Indo-European *péh₂ur.
