นาย • ‎(naai)

1. chief; lord; master.
2. (historical)
   1. the lowest noble rank of Thailand.
   2. person holding such rank.
3. (law) the formal title used by a male commoner who has attained the age of 15.

Usage notes

• The male title is often translated as or compared to mister in English.
• A male commoner below the age of 15 uses the title เด็กชาย ‎(dèk chaai).
• A female commoner under the age of 15 uses the title เด็กหญิง ‎(dèk yǐng).
• A female commoner over the age of 15 uses the title นางสาว. If married, the female may change her title to นาง ‎(naang).
