From Pali mūla ‎(“root; foot, bottom; reason, cause; origin, source”), from Sanskrit मूल्य ‎(mūlya, “to be eradicated; beginning at the root; purchasable”). Cognate with Lao ມູນ ‎(mūn), Khmer មូល ‎(mul).
