Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *(t/d)u-n/t ‎(“join, tie, knot, bring together, assemble, fold”). Related to མདུད་པ ‎(mdud pa, “to tie together”) and འདུ་བ ‎('du ba, “to gather, to collect”).
