1. pale; light

   淡 (あわ)い水色 (みずいろ)のシャツを着 (き)ていた。

   Awai mizuiro no shatsu o kiteita.

   He was wearing a pastel blue shirt.

2. dim; indistinct; low in contrast; less in degree

   淡 (あわ)い霧 (きり)につつまれている。

   Awai kiri ni tsutsumarete iru.

   It is surrounded by thin fog.

   彼 (かれ)に淡 (あわ)い期待 (きたい)をよせている。

   Kare ni awai kitai o yosete iru.

   I have a vague expectation of him.
