Compound of 韋駄天(idaten, “Skanda (Buddhism)”) +走り(hashiri, “running”, the 連用形(ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 走るhashiru, "to run"). The hashiri changes to bashiri as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
