Etymology

First attested in the Yeokhae yuhae (역해유해), 1690, as ᄂᆞᄅᆞᄇᆡ (Yale: nolopoy). Equivalent to 나루 (naru, “ferry”) + —ㅅ— (-s-, “genitive infix”) + 배 (bae, “boat”).
