From Japanese タバコ (tabako) or たばこ (tabako, “tobacco”). Found in 1614 as 담파고 (tamphakwo, 淡婆姑), and thereafter as 담파귀 (tamphakwi), 담바 (tampa), 담ᄇᆡ (tampoy).
