Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Habʰi (compare Sanskrit अभि ‎(abhí, “towards, over, upon”)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂m̥bʰi ‎(“round about, around”) (compare Latin ambi-, Ancient Greek ἀμφί ‎(amphí, “for, about, around”), Old High German umbi ‎(“around”), Old Irish imb ‎(“around”)).
