Etymology

Created in the end of the nineteenth century, from the elements Sol- as in Solveig, from Old Norse salr ‎(“hall”) (by folk etymology interpreted as modern Norwegian sol ‎(“sun”) ) and -frid as in Målfrid, Ingrid, etc, meaning "beautiful".
