adverbial accusative ‎(plural adverbial accusatives)

1. (grammar): in Arabic and other Semitic languages, the use of a noun or adjective in the accusative case as an adverb (i.e. something that stands outside the normal sentence-level argument structure). Examples in Arabic are عَادَةً ‎(ʿādatan, “usually”), literally the accusative case of عَادَة ‎(ʿāda, “custom, norm”), and تَقْرِيبًا ‎(taqrīban, “approximately”), literally the accusative case of تَقْرِيب ‎(taqrīb, “approximation”). Similar phenomena in other languages are English adverbial genitives and Latin adverbial ablatives.
