attemperator ‎(plural attemperators)

The temperature of overheating in all steam cycles must be controlled in order that it does not exceed the technological limits of the material of the turbine and the boiler. The attemperator function is to injects a given amount of water in the form of saturated liquid into the superheated steam flow, reducing the specific enthalpy, and then lowering the temperature. This is the attemperation process, and it must be done between overheating and reheat in a steam power plant (before the steam enters the high pressure turbine HP).
