From Old French cuirace, probably borrowed from Old Provençal coirassa, or Italian corazza, or old Aragonese cuyraça, from Late Latin coriacea (vestis) (“leather (garment)”), from coriaceus, ultimately from Latin corium, and probably influenced by cuir in French. See also coriace.
