  • If a grammatical rule demands lenition of words beginning with a consonant, eg when creating an infinitive or a past tense form, this particle is added as a prefix to words beginning with a vowel.

    shnàmh mi — I swam
    òl — drink
    a dh’òl — to drink
    dh’òl mi — I drank
