Usage notes

• An etujärjestö is a non-profit organization in the sense that it doesn't aim to achieve profit or gain for the organization itself, only for its members. The term is often used as a synonym for "(trade) union" and should not be translated as "interest group".
• Interest groups that don't work for the benefit of their members (such as animal rights, care for the disabled) often prefer to call themselves a kansalaisjärjestö (NGO) to underline the difference.
• The term "interest organization" is always used with a preceding modifier.
