Derived terms

Determiner

ez

  1. this (used before a noun phrase with a definite article, gets the case of the noun phrase)
Ez a ház nagyon szép. - This house is very beautiful.

Usage notes

  • It is declined according to the noun phrase it is applied to:
Ezekben a házakban magyarok laknak. - In these houses, Hungarian people live.
  • Because ez takes a definite article (the) and van (is, to be) is omitted in cases of qualification, some terms are ambiguous:
"Ez a ház" can mean both "This house" as a phrase, and "This is the house" as a whole sentence.
