From Proto-Albanian*gat-, from Proto-Indo-European*gwem- 'to go'. Cognate to Sanscrit गति(gáti-, “going, course”), Proto-Slavic *gatь (cf. Russian гать(gat', “road of brushwood, weir”)). Related to ngas[1]. Compare also the related Romanian gata(“ready”), which is also an invariable adjective.
