Etymology
From Proto-Germanic *himinaz (“cloud cover, sky”). Cognate with Old English heofon, Old Saxon hevan, Gothic 𐌷𐌹𐌼𐌹𐌽𐍃 (himins). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱemen-, *ḱemer- (“stone, cloud, sky”).
