Cognate with Old High German hriosan, riosan ‎(“to fall, rush”), Middle High German rūzen ‎(“to move hastily and noisily, rush”), Old Norse hrjōta ‎(“to fall out, jump down, break, burst”), Old Norse hrjōða ‎(“to fling out, distribute, plunder”).
