From Proto-Albanian*xāljā, from earlier *ksān and suffix -jā, from pre-Albanian *s-keh₂n, metathesis of Proto-Indo-European*kh₂en, oblique of *kóh₂r̥ ‘wax’ (compare Greek κηρός(kirós), Lithuanian korỹs ‘honeycomb’).[1] The change of *n to l is irregular. Possibly related to hollë.
