Contraction

i-am (contraction of îi and am)

1. îi as dative of el or ea

   i-am dat ei cartea

   I gave her the book

   i-am dat lui cartea

   I gave him the book

2. îi as accusative of ei

   i-am trezit pe ei la șapte dimineața

   I woke them up at seven in the morning.

   i-am trezit pe copiii mei la opt dimineața

   I woke my kids up at eight in the morning.

Usage notes

Like all such contractions in Romanian, i-am has no lexical meaning by itself.
