- kangaroo (any of the large marsupials in the family Macropodidae, with strong hind legs for hopping, found in Australia and New Guinea)
Usage notes
The species belonging to the genera Dorcopsulus, Petrogale, Thylogale and Wallabia, and some individual species in the genus Macropus are called vallabi (“wallaby”) in Finnish. The usage of terms vallabi and "wallaby" is not overlapping, see usage note in the entry vallabi. Yet other species of kangaroo are called wallaroo, dorcopsis, quokka, monjon and pademelon in English.
