scoriation (plural scoriations)

  1. A sloppily cut groove, furrow, or trench, characterised by the presence of refuse material from which it was cut. The word is derived from the Latin scoria, which means slag or dross , and thus is related to the english words scoria and scorify, which both refer to the waste left over from smelting ore.
