Etymology
From Proto-Albanian*štanga, from Proto-Indo-European*st(y)oy-. Compare Sanskrit styāyate ‘it hardens’, Ancient Greek στῖον(stîon, “pebble”), Russian стена(stená, “wall”), Old Englishstān 'stone'. Alternatively cognate to Old Norse stinga(“to put, to stick”), Lithuanian sténgiu, sténgti(“to be able”), stingt(“it hardens”)[1].
