Etymology

Tosk variant of Gheg tanë. From Proto-Albanian *tod-oino-, from Proto-Indo-European *ói-nos, *ói-wos 'one' (compare Gheg njâni 'the one'). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *tan-, from Proto-Indo-European *to(d) 'it'. Cognate to Ancient Greek τόν ‎(tón, “it”)[1].
