Cognate with Bulgarian трън (trǎn), Czech and Slovene trn, Slovak tŕň, Russian тёрн (tjorn) and терние (ternije). Non-Slavic cognates include English thorn and Sanskrit तृण (tṛ́ṇa, grass).
