Etymology

From Old Provençal oc, from Latin hoc ‎(“that”) (compare Old French o, affirmative particle, French oui ‘yes’).^[1] The semantic shift is calqued on Gaulish [Term?]: compare Old Irish tó ‎(“yes”), Welsh do ‎(“indeed”), from Proto-Indo-European *tod ‎(“that”) (compare English that).^[2]
