Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *moltъ, from Proto-Indo-European *melh₂- ‎(“to grind, crush”), whence also млѣти ‎(mlěti, “to grind”). Compare similar semantic development from the same Proto-Indo-European root in Latin malleus ‎(“hammer”), beside the usual reflex molō ‎(“I grind”).
