Etymology

From *quduğ "well" (compare Old Turkic quduğ, well), from Proto-Turkic *Kud- ‎(“to pour”).

This is the native Kypchak development from the above archetype, as opposed to ҡоҙоҡ ‎(qoðoq), ҡотоҡ ‎(qotoq) which have evolved from the same Proto-Turkic archetype, but via intermediary sources.

compare with Tatar кое ‎(qoye), Crimean Tatar quyu, Turkish kuyu, etc.
