Etymology

Some researchers spell the word as Խոզմօր ‎(Xozmōr) and explain it as խոզ ‎(xoz, “pig”) +‎ մօր ‎(mōr, “marsh”), but the only extant manuscript has the spelling Խօզմօր ‎(Xōzmōr), so Martirosyan proposes a derivation from խօզ ‎(xōz) +‎ մօր ‎(mōr), thus meaning “mossy marsh” or the like. Compare also խոզմրատ ‎(xozmrat).
