Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *teh₂- ‎(“to melt”), whence also թանալ ‎(tʿanal) and թան ‎(tʿan). Cognates include Ancient Greek τήκω ‎(tḗkō), Sanskrit तोयम् ‎(toyam), Latin tabeo and Old English þawian (English thaw).
