In the positive singular the phrase is simple, with the occasional inversion to דאָ איז ‎(do iz), but the plural and negative forms see a great deal of dialectal variation. "There isn't..." may be rendered:

• איז נישט דאָ ‎(iz nisht do)
  • איז נישטאָ ‎(iz nishto)
• איז ניט דאָ ‎(iz nit do)
  • איז ניטאָ ‎(iz nito)

In the plural, i.e. "there are", איז ‎(iz, “is”) becomes pluralized to זענען ‎(zenen, “are”) with the alternate form זײַנען ‎(zaynen). Thus we encounter in the positive:

• זײַנען דאָ ‎(zaynen do) / זענען דאָ ‎(zenen do)
• דאָ זײַנען ‎(do zaynen) / דאָ זענען ‎(do zenen)

and in the negative ("there aren't"):

• זײַנען נישט דאָ ‎(zaynen nisht do) / זענען נישט דאָ ‎(zenen nisht do)
  • זײַנען נישטאָ ‎(zaynen nishto) / זענען נישטאָ ‎(zenen nishto)
• זײַנען ניט דאָ ‎(zaynen nit do) / זענען ניט דאָ ‎(zenen nit do)
  • זײַנען ניטאָ ‎(zaynen nito) / זענען ניטאָ ‎(zenen nito)
