מִסְדְּרוֹן (misd'rón) m (plural indefinite מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת, singular construct מִסְדְּרוֹן־, plural construct מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת־)

  1. (obsolete) A vestibule, foyer, anteroom.
    • Judges 3:23:
      וַיֵּצֵא אֵהוּד הַמִּסְדְּרוֹנָה וַיִּסְגֹּר דַּלְתוֹת הָעַלִיָּה בַּעֲדוֹ וְנָעָל׃
      vayetzé ehúd hamisd'róna vayisgór d'latót ha'aliyá ba'adó v'na'ál:
      Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlor upon him, and locked them.[1]
  2. (modern) A corridor, hallway, hall.
  3. (by extension) A corridor: a narrow strip of land connecting a state to an area or to the sea.

Usage notes

  • In addition to the plural forms מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת and מִסְדְּרוֹנוֹת־ given above, the plural forms מִסְדְּרוֹנִים and מִסְדְּרוֹנֵי־ are attested as well; they are much less common, however.
