נָטַל • ‎(natál) ‎(pa'al construction) (transitive)

1. To load (something on someone), to cause someone to bear (something).
   • Lamentations 3:28, with Young's Literal Translation:

     יֵשֵׁב בָּדָד וְיִדֹּם כִּי נָטַל עָלָיו

     yeshév badád v'yidóm kí natál aláv

     He sitteth alone, and is silent, For He hath laid [it] upon him.

   • 2 Samuel 24:12:

     שָׁלֹשׁ אָנֹכִי נוֹטֵל עָלֶיךָ בְּחַר־לְךָ אַחַת־מֵהֶם וְאֶעֱשֶׂה־לָּךְ

     shalśh aní notél alécha b'char-l'chá achat-mehém v'eese-lách

     Three I am loading upon you: choose one of them, and I will do to you

2. To take (grab and move to oneself).

     pashat ba'al habayit yado lakhuts v'natan l'tokh yado shel ani, o shenatal mitokha v'hikhnis, ba'al habayit khayav v'he'ani patur.

     [if] the lord of the house extended his hand to the outside and gave [something] into the hand of the poor man, or took something from [the poor man's hand] and brought [it] inside, the lord of the house is liable and the poor man is exempt.

   • a. 1200, Maimonides, משנה תורה,‎ גזילה ואבידה chapter 4:

     שאמר הגזלן מעולם לא נכנסתי ולא נטלתי כלום

     sheamár hagazlán meolám ló nichnásti v'ló natálti k'lúm

     that the thief said, I never entered and I took nothing

3. (Judaism) To pour water over (hands).

   • Isaiah 63:9, with Young's Literal Translation:

     בְּאַהֲבָתוֹ וּבְחֶמְלָתוֹ הוּא גְאָלָם וַיְנַטְּלֵם וַיְנַשְּׂאֵם כָּל־יְמֵי עוֹלָם

     b'ahavató uvchemlató hú g'alám vay'nat'lém vay'nas'ém kol-y'mé olám

     In His love and in His pity He redeemed them, And He doth lift them up, And beareth them all the days of old
