Etymology

From طَابَق ‎(ṭābaq), ultimately from Middle Persian tʾp̄k' ‎(tābag, “[big brick used as] frying-pan”) (or another Middle Iranian language). For the sense development compare Mingrelian ანგურა ‎(angura, “big brick used for baking bread”), from Georgian აგური ‎(aguri, “brick”).
