Etymology

From Middle Persian kyt' ‎(kēd, “soothsayer, magician”) (compare Parthian qydyg ‎(“astrologer”), from Old Persian [script needed] ‎(kayāda-, “astrologer”). Cognate with Old Norse seiðr.
