Learned borrowing from Sanskrit प्रश्न ‎(praśna), from the root पृच्छति ‎(pṛcchati, “to ask, question, interrogate”), from Proto-Indo-European *pr̥sḱéti, the sḱe-present of the root *preḱ-. Cognate to English frain.
