From วรรณ (wan) + ยุกต์ (yúk); ultimately from Sanskrit वर्णयुक्त (varṇayukta), from वर्ण (varṇa, “class; colour; sound; etc”) + युक्त (yukta, “established; joined; sensible; etc”). Compare Pali vaṇṇayutta.
