  1. A jamo (letter) of the alphabet of the Korean writing system, hangeul.
    In North Korea, ㅉ is called 된지읒 (doenjieut), "strong ㅈ (jieut)" and is the ninteenth jamo. In South Korea, it is called 쌍지읒 (ssangjieut), "doubled ㅈ (jieut)" and is the fourteenth jamo.
    ㅉ is pronounced as an alveolo-palatal affricate with tense phonation (IPA: [t͈ɕ] or [d̬ʑ]), i.e. similar to the English ch, but with a stiff tongue and glottal opening.
