Etymology 1
The final -raki may be cognate with the second syllable of 奈良 (Nara) (the name of a city and prefecture located in the Kansai region of Japan) and with the name of the Garak/Gara/Gaya confederacy (a loose confederation of city-states located at the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula in ancient times). Compare also the modern Korean 나라 (nara, “country, kingdom”), from Middle Korean 나랗 (narah), and modern Korean 땅 (ttang, “land, ground, territory”), from Middle Korean ㅅ닿 (sdah), and modern Korean 흙 (heuk, “earth, soil”), from Middle Korean ㅎ.ㄺ (hɔlg).
