Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *-iskos; cognate with with Lithuanian -iškas, and also with Proto-Slavic *-ьskъ and Proto-Germanic *-iskaz (English -ish, German -isch, Swedish -isk, etc.). Found mostly in non-native words; possibly a borrowing (perhaps from German).
