1. (rare) Forms adverbs from some adjectives, that mean "in the manner of being something". The meaning is roughly the same as that of -sti ‎(“-ly”). The corresponding English expressions are not necessarily obvious.

   Levitin leivälle paksulti voita.‎

   I spread a thick layer of butter on the bread.

   Olen pitkälti sitä mieltä, että...‎

   I am, by and large, of the opinion that...

   Ongelmamme johtuvat paljolti siitä, että...‎

   A lot of our problems are due to the fact that...

• Some derivations are probably better understood as words in their own right, e.g. silti, kosolti, viljalti.
