From Old Norse Hróbjartr composed of hró- (hróð-) + bjartur. Ultimately from Proto-Germanic. Cognates include German Ruprecht, English, French and German Robert, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish Roberto, and Icelandic Róbert (imported in later times from the European continent).
