Jewish tax (plural Jewish taxes)

  1. Fees incurred in order for a food or other consumable goods producer or manufacturer to acquire certification from any of a number of Rabbinical Agencies that a product is considered kosher.
  2. Any of the taxes levied on items of Jewish religious observance, on individual Jews, or on a Jewish community.

Usage notes

  • The kosher certification fee is not truly a tax. (A tax is imposed by a government.) The term Jewish tax is used refer to such a fee primarily by anti-Semites.
