Moselle Franconian
English
Proper noun
- one of two subgroups of the Central Franconian dialects; spoken in the north-western half of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Siegerland, and parts of eastern Belgium; distinguished from the northern Ripuarian by a number of fairly parallel isoglosses, of which the Moselle Franconian diphthongization of Germanic -ī-, -ū- is the most important.
Usage notes
- Luxembourgish is traditionally included in this group, but is now usually regarded as a separate branch, which is also done in this dictionary.
