1. (surgery) The operation of sewing up a laceration of the neck of the uterus.
   • 1892, American Gynecological Journal II, page 142:

     We have had recently in gynecological work several “fads.” Sims’ cervix splitting, Emmet’s operation of trachelorrhaphy, divulsion of the cervix a la Goodell, going the way of all “fads.”
