Possibly borrowed from Albaniankësulë (var. kaçule). Compare Romanian căciulă, Greek κασοῦλα(kasoῦla). Alternatively cognate to it as Balkan substratum word, or akin to Latincasula or cuculla. Other attempts have been made to link it to a Latin *catteula, from *cattea, from cattus, to *casibula, variant of casubula, but these are unlikely. Compare also Venetian caciòła.
