Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 州 (“continent”) and 亞 (“Asia”). From Borrowing from Chinese 亞洲, but cast in Vietnamese word order, with the noun preceding the modifier. Usage of this term has almost completely replaced usage of the direct loan Á châu ‎(亞洲) in Vietnam.
