From Late Latin ceresia, from the neuter plural of Late Latin ceresium, from Latin cerasium, from Ancient Greek κεράσιον ‎(kerásion, “cherry”), from Ancient Greek κερασός ‎(kerasós, “bird cherry”), ultimately possibly of Anatolian origin. Compare Daco-Romanian cireașă.
